pizza at urth

When it comes to food I’ve been on the side of super clean-eating and I’ve spent many a day on the opposite side of that which I suppose would be called eating-dirty (?!?).  The latter looking like a donut for breakfast, gummy bears to snack on before a nice big thousand calorie burrito for lunch with a side of Cheetos, washed down with a coke.   The former being a bunch of kale, green beans, grilled chicken, oatmeal, chia seeds and nuts.  Not in that order but believe me when I say I’ve been there, done that, loved it.  Until I didn’t.   The conversation about food is a long one, a tender one, a controversial one, one that I will entertain more often on this site.  To sum up my overall view though I’d say I believe in — a healthy balance.

Not too far to the left, not too far to the right, just right in the middle.  Balance.  What I refer to most here is balance– in mindset–towards food.  To achieve this when I eat out, which is more often than I’d like to admit, I look for restaurants that offer exactly that, a balanced menu.  One that has options that aren’t too rigid or too loose– instead one that boasts healthy recipes with a little bit of wildness.  A little bit of everything, moderately– like the Margarita pizza from an LA-favorite restaurant, Urth Caffe.  It’s a great place to meet with friends and equally great for good food with balance.  Their pizzas have nutrient dense toppings, the cheese is aged, and in the featured photo above the toppings are basil and tomatoes.  Their pizza called D’Lox has the works: smoked salmon, herbed marscapone, red onions, arugula, fennel and capers.  Exactly.  What’s a caper?  All of that healthy nutritious stuff on pizza, and the bread is not freezer bread, no no no no no.  It’s brick oven fanciness.  What we realize is that food doesn’t have to be fancy it could be well made and delicious and nutritious and scrumptious at the same time.

It could.
